Water enters with more difficulty, oxygen decreases, and root growth is limited. It is usually caused by working wet soil, heavy machinery, or repeated traffic.<\/p><h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\">2) Surface crusting<\/span><\/h5><p>A hard \u201ccap\u201d forms on the surface (especially after heavy rain or sprinkler impact), causing water to run off. It also worsens seed emergence.<\/p><h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\">3) Sodic soils (structure collapse)<\/span><\/h5><p class=\"translation-block\">In soils with excess sodium, structure degrades, crusting increases, and infiltration worsens. The solution is to correct the structural cause, not just apply more irrigation.<\/p><h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\">4) Hardened layers (\u201chardpan\u201d)<\/span><\/h5><p>Sometimes the surface looks fine, but there is a compacted layer at 10\u201330 cm that blocks water and roots. This leads to surface waterlogging and shallow root systems.<\/p><h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\">5) Low organic matter and biological activity<\/span><\/h5><p>Without stable structure and natural channels (roots, earthworms), the soil struggles to \u201cbreathe\u201d and absorb water.<\/p><h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\">6) Over-irrigation<\/span><\/h5><p>Even if the soil can infiltrate, applying too much water at once can exceed its capacity. This is common when irrigation timing or flow rates are not well adjusted.<\/p><h5><span style=\"color: #008000;\">7) Texture + management (not just \u201cclay soil\u201d)<\/span><\/h5><p class=\"translation-block\">A clay soil can infiltrate well if it is structured; a loamy soil can infiltrate poorly if it is compacted.
